The Atlanta Day Shelter Project
This Year WECE will be starting a service project that will work to provide assistance for the members of The Atlanta Day Center for Women and Children(ADCWC). The ADCWC works to ease the burden of the Atlanta homeless. The ADCWC provides assistance in establishing self-sufficiency by providing comprehensive education and support services in a manner that respects human dignity. Volunteers play an important role in the shelter's ability to provide these services, and it is in this capacity that the ECE student organizations (WECE, IEEE, HKN, and SFC) are getting involved.
WECE hopes to offer the shelter our services by teaching a computer education course 2-3 times a week. We are currently seeking volunteers that can devote an hour or more a week to the project. Volunteers will be responsible for everything from determining the goals of the program to instructing the course itself. The shelter also needs assistance with serving food, sorting donations, and providing daytime chiId-care.
If the computer class interests you, please email us at wece@ece.gatech.eduor contact your organization leadership . If you are more interested in the other services, please contact the ADCWC Volunteer Coordinator, Mrs. Deb Clark, at dclark@atlantadayshelter.org.
